Landscape 1, 2024, rubber, cork, tape, knitted in the round with oversize knitting needles, 4’x1’x1’

In Landscape 1, I challenge both material and technical limitations. Working with fragile cork sheets and industrial rubber bands, I transform these resistant materials through meticulous processing: stabilizing and hand-stitching cork strips, and reconstructing rubber bands into a continuous cord. Using custom-made oversized double-pointed needles, I knit both materials in the round at an ambitious scale. Through this process, I discover how material constraints can catalyze innovation, resulting in a work that speaks to the gift of adaptation and possibility.
